The Minnesota Vikings are in a tough position these days. They have a team with a lot of offensive talent, but are extreme long shots to make the playoffs or change the direction of the team this season.
With that in mind, there are some players who might want to try their luck with another team. That is especially true for players who are on the Vikings practice squad and might not get many opportunities to make the 53-man roster.
The Los Angeles Rams have signed former Minnesota Vikings tight end Nick Vannett to their active roster.
The Los Angeles Rams announced on Friday that they have signed veteran tight end Nick Vannett to their active roster. This was possible since he was on the practice squad of the Minnesota Vikings before signing with the NFC West squad.

The signing of Vannett by the Rams is interesting. They aren't lacking talent at the tight end position. Colby Parkinson, Davis Allen, and Terrence Ferguson are all on their 53-man roster, making this move even more curious.
The 32-year-old tight end becomes the fourth tight end on the Rams' 9-2 squad. That brought out some jokes from Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay.
"You give yourself a chance to activate all your different personnels, whether it be 11, 12, 13...who knows, maybe 14 at some point, huh? No, never. Well, I wouldn't say never."
Since entering the league in 2018, Vannett has been signed to nine teams, making the Rams his tenth NFL team since being drafted out of Ohio State. Although he has bounced around, the veteran tight end always seems to find a team to call home.
For the Vikings, this leaves the team in an interesting spot at tight end. They still have T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver. Past that, it is only Ben Sims and Ben Yurosek for depth. Interestingly, Minnesota had Sims on the 53-man roster and not Vannett. That allowed him to be poached by the Rams.
Considering Minnesota's injury woes this year, allowing any solid depth pieces to leave is a bold move. However, the Vikings must value tight end Ben Yurosek quite a bit since they placed him on short-term injured reserve this season when those slots are limited and players can go down with an injury at any time. Hopefully, this move won't come back to haunt the Minnesota Vikings later this season.
