A lot has changed for the Minnesota Vikings this offseason. For the 2025 NFL season, the team will have a new quarterback behind center and quite a number of new faces on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.

Thankfully, some important things stayed the same. Coach of the Year Kevin O'Connell will still be running the show on the sidelines and the Vikings locked down their general manager on a multi-year contract extension.

Now, Minnesota is working to fill in the rest of the holes on the roster and among the coaching staff. While some of that will happen with individuals from outside the organization, some of the best options are already on the team's payroll.

It is being reported that the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a contract extension with offensive coordinator Wes Phillips.

On Friday, Ben Goessling shared on X a report stating that the Minnesota Vikings have agreed to a contract extension with offensive coordinator Wes Phillips. This keeps the offensive plan on track from previous seasons.

Phillips got his start in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys in 2007 as a quality control specialist and offensive assistant. He worked his way up to being a tight ends coach before bringing his talents to Washington and the Rams before joining O'Connell in Minnesota in 2022.

The 46-year-old coach is the son of former NFL head coach Wade Phillips and the grandson of former head coach Bum Phillips. Although his lineage is well documented, he has also made a name for himself by being a consistent presence on the sidelines.

A former af2 Arena League quarterback, Phillips was a member of the San Diego Riptide. Now, he will have the opportunity to work with young quarterback J.J. McCarthy to prepare him for the starting duties of the Vikings.

Keeping continuity in an ever-evolving league can be a massive challenge. Being able to stick with one individual over a long period of time doesn't happen very often in the league anymore, but Phillips gets an opportunity to stick with the Vikings for a while longer.

Although the details of the extension have not been revealed, it is great that the Minnesota Vikings and offensive coordinator Wes Phillips were able to reach an agreement on an extension. This is great news for a team that hopes to make some noise during the 2025 NFL season.
