The Minnesota Vikings overachieved during the 2024 NFL season. The odds of the team replicating their 14-3 record were highly unlikely, but most people expected the purple and gold to be a competitive team in 2025.
However, few fans would have thought that the team would have a 3-4 record seven games into the season and be at the bottom of the NFC North. With the team coming off a blowout loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 8 on Thursday Night Football, the need for adjustments seems more essential than ever.
There is still time for the Vikings to turn things around, but with a challenging schedule coming up and several big division games in the next few weeks, those alterations to the team and the strategy will need to be made sooner rather than later.
Are the Minnesota Vikings the most disappointing team in the NFL during the 2025 NFL season?
When examining the league, it is challenging to determine how the Minnesota Vikings compare to the other franchises. It is easy to be frustrated with the team, but are they in contention to be the most disappointing in the league this season
Recently, NFL on ESPN analyst Dan Orlovsky talked about the Vikings and spoke about the team's disappointments this season. Here is a clip of that discussion as shared on X (formerly Twitter).

Vikings fans have every right to be disappointed with the team right now. Problems on offense and defense are apparent, and that is after Minnesota 'upgraded' in the trenches on both sides this offseason.
"I think this is the most disappointing roster in football right now. This is an organization that this offseason spent the second-most free agent money in the NFL, and this was a roster that was built in many of our eyes to be, like, quarterback independent. And, one, this offensive line cannot protect on a consistent basis at all. The interior of the offensive line is very poor, Two, this run defense has been ran all over this season. All over this year. And it happened again last night"
Orlovsky might have some questionable takes, but he is absolutely right that this team is not doing what is needed to help their quarterback win football games. Injuries and ineffectiveness on the offensive and defensive lines have contributed to Minnesota's struggles in a big way this season.
"I'm shocked because I honestly thought that this team was built to say 'if you just had average quarterback play, you're an NFC Championship contender.' Anybody that wants to tell me Carson Wentz is the issue right now in Minnesota, we could have a conversation and I'll tell you you're out of your mind. Quarterback isn't the problem in Minnesota right now. J.J. McCarthy is not going to save them. Carson Wentz certainly is not going to save them. This roster is unbelievably disappointing right now."
Quarterback might not be THE problem, but it is A problem. Of course, Minnesota isn't helping their passers on the offensive line, but they invested heavily in targets for their signal-callers and spent a lot of salary cap space to try to make things easier behind center.
However, frustration and disappointment have been themes for the Minnesota Vikings this season.
