On Thursday at 7 p.m. CST, the full Minnesota Vikings schedule for the 2026 season is set to officially release. But before that happens, rumors and leaks are bound to pop up this week, and that's exactly what took place on Tuesday.

According to an unconfirmed rumor from the account on X known as Ozzy (@OzzyNFL), which has leaked plenty of NFL schedule news in the past that went on to be correct, the Vikings will cross the southern border of the U.S. in Week 11 next season to take on the San Francisco 49ers in a "Sunday Night Football" matchup that will take place in Mexico City, Mexico.

If the rumor turns out to be true, this will be the first time in the history of Minnesota's franchise that the team will play a regular-season game in Mexico.

Minnesota Vikings schedule rumor has them facing the San Francisco 49ers in Mexico

Not including the upcoming season, Mexico has hosted four regular-season NFL games since 2016, with the last one taking place in 2022. Coincidentally, the 49ers were one of the two teams to take part in that 2022 contest, and in that game, they cruised to a 38-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals.

Next season's matchup will take place inside Estadio Banorte, which was previously known as Estadio Azteca.

It's the same building where a 2018 game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Rams was set to take place, but it had to be cancelled due to poor field conditions. Since that debacle, the field inside the stadium hasn't been an issue.

Vikings players will also have to deal with playing inside a venue that is in an area where the altitude is over 7,200 feet, which is more than 1,500 feet higher than the altitude in the "Mile High City," Denver, Colorado.

There will be plenty of challenges for Minnesota, but at least the game will take place at a neutral site and not San Francisco's Levi's Stadium since the 49ers are technically the home team.

That might be all the Vikings need to get a victory in Mexico next season and increase their win streak to three in matchups against San Francisco.
