It's been almost two years since the last time we saw cornerback Mekhi Blackmon play in a meaningful game for the Minnesota Vikings, and now that's not going to happen anytime soon, as the team has decided to trade the veteran cornerback to the Indianapolis Colts.

On Monday, the Vikings announced that they have traded Blackmon to the Colts in exchange for a sixth-round selection in the 2026 NFL Draft.

With the deal on Monday and the recent trades made involving Harrison Phillips and Sam Howell, Minnesota has accumulated additional draft selections in the fifth and sixth rounds in 2026, and additional picks in the sixth and seventh rounds of the 2027 NFL Draft during the last few days, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Insert the Brian Windhorst "Now why is that?" meme because what exactly are the Vikings up to?

Minnesota has made multiple trades since the start of last week, and it's resulted in them landing additional Day 3 draft picks in 2026 and 2027. Are the Vikings gearing up for a bigger move, or do they just want to get whatever they can for some guys that they might've cut before the start of the upcoming season?

We'll have to wait and see, but it certainly seems like Minnesota is accumulating a bunch of draft picks to use in a bigger move in the near future.

As for Blackmon, he joined the Vikings back in 2023 when the team drafted him with a third-round selection. His career with Minnesota got off to a promising start, as he appeared in 15 games (including three starts) in his rookie campaign with the team.

Unfortunately, Blackmon suffered a torn ACL during the Vikings' first training camp practice of last summer, which forced him to miss the entire 2024 season.

Despite his recovery from the injury, Minnesota clearly wanted to go in a direction this year that didn't involve him.

The Vikings' cornerback room was already full of questions heading into the 2025 season, and now with Blackmon's departure, the number of those questions is only going to increase.
