Vikings trade for Tyreek Hill would be the blockbuster that fuels Super Bowl dreams

On Wednesday, NFL Media's Tom Pelissero reported that the Minnesota Vikings are "seriously exploring veteran receivers in the trade market." Following this news, many have assumed the Vikings will attempt to reunite with former Minnesota receiver Adam Thielen, but making a bigger splash with someone like Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins is a better option that the Vikings should consider.

Hill has been involved in a bunch of trade rumors for the last few months, and there's no guarantee that he will be with the Dolphins past the 2025 season.

If Minnesota is serious about contending for a championship this year (which it seems like they are), making a deal to land Hill could be a move that transforms the team's offense into an unstoppable force.

Minnesota Vikings should attempt to trade for Miami Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill

With the Dolphins last season, Hill caught 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns in 17 games. It was just the second time since 2017 that he's finished a campaign with under 1,000 receiving yards, but he was also dealing with a wrist injury throughout the year, and he had that surgically repaired back in February.

Less than two years ago, Hill led the NFL with 1,799 receiving yards and 13 touchdown catches. Yes, he's 31, but it seems a little too early to think that he can't bounce back in 2025 and put together another impressive season.

In addition to still being one of the top pass-catchers in the league, Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, also represents multiple players on Minnesota's current roster, including running back Aaron Jones, safety Josh Metellus, and edge rushers Jonathan Greenard and Andrew Van Ginkel.

Safe to say the Vikings have developed a solid working relationship with Rosenhaus recently, which one would think would make the team more willing to add another one of his clients to their roster.

Of course, Minnesota also has to consider the off-field drama that seems to follow Hill wherever he goes. The Dolphins' All-Pro pass-catcher has been arrested multiple times in the past, and he's been on the receiving end of a number of lawsuits.

Under head coach Kevin O'Connell, the Vikings have built a top-notch culture inside their locker room, and if they believe that culture is strong enough to bring in someone as polarizing as Hill, then that might be a risk worth taking.

Now, what sort of trade package would it take for Minnesota to acquire Hill before the start of the 2025 season?

At this point in his career, a first-round draft pick seems a little steep as something that Miami would need in return for Hill. But maybe something like a conditional third-round selection that turns into a second-round pick if the receiver helps the Vikings make the NFC Championship or beyond is an option that could work.

If Hill comes in and helps Minnesota reach the NFC Championship this season, no one is going to care how much it cost the team to acquire him.

He also has two years remaining on his current contract with Miami, with an out after the 2025 campaign. So if his addition were to not work out, the Vikings would be able to easily get out of his deal in the 2026 offseason.

A few weeks ago, no one thought the Vikings' wide receiver room would be surrounded by so many question marks like it currently is. But with all the uncertainty surrounding the position group, Minnesota going out and making a trade for Hill would definitely help a lot of those question marks disappear.
