Just when Minnesota Vikings fans didn't have to worry about the team's future finances, some new stress might have just been added, specifically about receiver Jordan Addison.
The New Orleans Saints made headlines by giving star wide receiver Chris Olave a four-year, $132 million contract extension with $90 million guaranteed, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Olave was a second-team All-Pro last season after hitting career highs in receptions (100), yards (1,163), and touchdowns (nine).
This leaves the Vikings in a vulnerable state, as they face some big decisions in the future. Olave's extension might put Minnesota in a corner to decide what to do with one of their star players.

Addison's career got off to a promising start with 911 yards and 10 touchdowns in his rookie season back in 2023. Since then, his numbers have dipped, and he has slowly missed time on the field.
Last year, he missed three games due to a suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy. He finished with just 610 yards and three touchdowns. PFF only gave him a grade of 64.9, ranking 60th out of 81 eligible NFL wide receivers.
There's no denying, though, that Addison is a good receiver who knows how to pick up yards on each reception. In 2025, he had a career-high 14.5 yards per reception, so while his stats might look like they are declining, he's being more productive with each catch.
The 2026 season is a massive one for Addison, especially since the Vikings picked up his fifth-year option on his rookie contract in April. That means he needs to play well and prove his worth if he wants to get a contract extension next offseason.
Addison will first have to make sure to stay out of trouble off the field and focus on playing on the field with the team. He needs to improve his game, as defenses will be covering All-Pro Justin Jefferson more often than not.
An underrated part of training camp for Addison is building chemistry with new quarterback Kyler Murray. While Murray hasn't won the QB job over J.J. McCarthy, he has a good chance to, leaving the door open for Addison to work closely with Murray.
Minnesota has every reason to be somewhat nervous about this latest extension, as they try to figure out what to do about Addison.
If he doesn't show massive production in 2026, there's a chance he ends up playing out the final year of his contract without an extension. That would put him on the hot seat to become a free agent in 2028.
It also makes the money situation worse if the Vikings want to give him an extension. Contracts are getting more expensive, so the longer they wait, the more money they will have to cough up to keep him.
None of this matters if Addison doesn't play well in 2026, so Vikings fans have to see how he responds to the pressure of this year.
