Daniel Jones reportedly wants Vikings to resurrect his NFL career
By Adam Patrick
After a few days of speculation, the rumors of the Minnesota Vikings having interest in signing former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones have reached an end.
That's because Jones has reportedly agreed to a deal to actually sign with the Vikings, according to multiple reports on Wednesday. Jones will begin his career with Minnesota as a member of the practice squad in order to familiarize himself with the team's offense and coaching staff.
Almost two years after putting together a career performance in a playoff matchup against the Vikings inside U.S. Bank Stadium, Jones is returning to Minnesota as a member of the purple and gold.
Former New York Giants QB Daniel Jones latest project for Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell
After Kevin O'Connell helped Matthew Stafford, Kirk Cousins, and Sam Darnold reach new heights in their careers, Jones is hoping the Vikings head coach can do the same for him.
Jones entered the NFL back in 2019 when the Giants drafted him with the No. 6 overall pick in the first round. He showed some promise as a rookie when former Minnesota offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur was his head coach in New York, and then his performance spiraled a bit until Brian Daboll took over as the Giants head coach in 2022.
Daboll was able to get Jones's career back on track during the 2022 campaign, as the quarterback helped the team make it to the divisional round of that season's playoffs. Unfortunately, that would turn out to be the height of his success in the NFL (so far).
Since that postseason victory over the Vikings in 2022, Jones had his 2023 season cut short by a torn ACL, and then this year, he was part of a New York team that was only able to come out with wins in two of his 10 starts.
But now, Minnesota has given Jones a second chance, and the Vikings have an opportunity to get a look at someone who could potentially be their backup behind J.J. McCarthy in 2025.
