Thanks to the path first taken by Brett Favre more than a decade ago, there has already been too much speculation linking New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the Minnesota Vikings this offseason. Unfortunately, the rumors and speculation involving Rodgers are likely only going to pick up following a report that was recently shared.
According to FOX Sports' Jay Glazer on Sunday, New York has already informed Rodgers that they will be moving on from him this offseason.
Glazer also added that "all signs point" to the 41-year-old signal-caller still wanting to play in the NFL next season, but it just won't be happening in a Jets uniform.
Expect there to be multiple Minnesota Vikings rumors involving New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers this offseason
Despite it seeming more and more like J.J. McCarthy will open the 2025 season as Minnesota's new starting quarterback, Vikings fans should prepare themselves to hear multiple national talking heads suggest the Twin Cities as a possible landing spot for Rodgers this year.
People will mention the uncertainty surrounding McCarthy and suggest how much better Rodgers would be in Minnesota's offense with head coach Kevin O'Connell calling the plays.
But there is one gigantic reason why the current New York quarterback is highly unlikely to end up with the Vikings offseason. Rodgers would just be a terrible fit for the culture that O'Connell has built in Minnesota since joining the organization in 2022.
Whether he likes it or not, negative attention and unwanted distractions have become part of the Aaron Rodgers experience during the last handful of years. This makes him someone who O'Connell likely won't want the Vikings to get themselves involved with, regardless of how intriguing it might be to some.
So, sorry to those who think Rodgers is going to end up following the same journey as Favre by playing for the Green Bay Packers, Jets, and Vikings. It's going to be a scenario that some suggest during the next few months, but Minnesota already has plans for a different quarterback to lead them out of the darkness.
