A few days later, people are still talking about the performance that Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers put together in the team's Week 3 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.
In just the first half of the victory, Rodgers became the first player in Vikings history to score two defensive touchdowns in one game when he took an interception and a fumble recovery and returned both of them more than 60 yards before eventually reaching the end zone to add six points to Minnesota's total on the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, the least shocking news was revealed when the NFL announced that Rodgers is the latest recipient of the NFC Defensive Player of the Week award for what he did out on the field against Cincinnati.
NFC DPOTW wasn't the only award Minnesota Vikings CB Isaiah Rodgers won on Wednesday
In addition to his award from the league, Rodgers was also given the prestigious honor of being named the Week 3 MVP during the most recent episode of Nickelodeon's "NFL Slimetime" show. Sandy Cheeks of Nickelodeon's "SpongeBob SquarePants" made the official announcement.
Prior to his arrival earlier this year, it's fair to say that a good portion of Vikings fans probably didn't know too much about Rodgers. But those inside Minnesota's team facilities certainly had their eyes on him during the offseason as the Vikings quickly signed him shortly after free agency began back in March.
Minnesota's confidence in Rodgers has already been proven to be valid in just three games, especially after what he did in Week 3. But even beyond his two touchdowns against the Bengals, he currently has the second-best PFF pass coverage grade in the NFL among qualifying cornerbacks.
According to data from PFF, Rodgers has only allowed a catch on 41.7 percent of the times his receiver has been targeted this season, and opposing quarterbacks only have a passer rating of 18.8 when throwing in his direction.
If he continues to play at his current level all season long, NFC Defensive Player of the Week isn't going to be the only award he wins.
