The story that has dominated the Minnesota Vikings offseason has been their quarterback situation heading into the 2025 NFL season. J.J. McCarthy is expected to be the team's starter after moving on from Sam Darnold, but you wouldn't know that by some of the media chatter out there.

McCarthy is coming off an injury that held him out during his rookie year and has yet to start a game in the NFL. However, the Vikings are coming off a 14-win season and may think they are too close to making a Super Bowl run to use this season as a measuring stick for their young quarterback.

This is where Aaron Rodgers' drama enters Minnesota. The veteran quarterback is looking for a team for the 2025 season and it's completely understandable why spending a season with the purple and gold would make a lot of sense.

The talk of Aaron Rodgers coming to the Minnesota Vikings won't die

Aaron Rodgers recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and stated that he wasn't waiting on the Minnesota Vikings to decide where to sign this offseason. However, not everyone is buying into that statement.

The Athletic's Dianna Russini spoke on her Scoop City podcast about Aaron Rodgers's situation. She feels there might be more to it than just not waiting for Minnesota to make a decision.

"He said he wasn't waiting for Minnesota. Oh, okay. Like, okay, we'll see. I think there's more to be told."

It is a bit odd that Rodgers hasn't signed with a team like the Pittsburgh Steelers yet. If the Vikings aren't putting an offer out there that is appealing to him, dragging out the signing seems like a waste of everyone's time.

The 41-year-old quarterback has also stated that he hasn't ruled out retirement either, meaning there could be something holding him back from a final run with a team like the Steelers that might be available with another squad.

"I wish someone on ['The Pat McAfee Show'] said, 'Okay, so you're not waiting on Minnesota, but if God forbid, J.J. McCarthy doesn't feel great and isn't out there on the field performing at the level Kevin O'Connell has wanted and they call you, you're going to say no because you're not waiting on them?' Like, come on."

If there is any chance that J.J. McCarthy isn't ready to go, the Vikings, it would seem that general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah would want to be more aggressive in getting a starting-caliber quarterback to make sure this season is at least competitive.

"Again, I have a hard time imagining he's saying no if Kevin [O'Connell is] calling him."
Dianna Russini

This is probably accurate. If the Minnesota Vikings decide to go forward with Aaron Rodgers at quarterback in 2025, it probably wouldn't take much recruiting to get the former Packers and Jets passer to sign a contract.

This situation could get a lot clearer after the 2025 NFL Draft if his other possible suitors decide to go a different direction rather than wait on Aaron Rodgers to make a decision. Unless something changes, don't expect the Vikings to lead the charge to sign him this offseason.
