Eagles fans beg new Viking ‘demand a trade’ after Week 1 struggles vs. Cowboys

It might have seemed like a low-key signing at the time, but the Minnesota Vikings poached a player fans of the reigning Super Bowl champions would like back.

With journeyman veterans like Stephon Gilmore and Shaq Griffin no longer in their plans, the Vikings were in the market for cornerbacks during the first wave of 2025 free agency.

One of their first reported signings was a two-year deal with Isaiah Rodgers, a reserve cornerback for the Philadelphia Eagles last season who played some critical snaps in the NFC playoffs.

The price tag on Rodgers was extremely reasonable — $11 million over two years with about $8 million in guarantees, per Spotrac. It looks even better for general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah now, as Rodgers is set to be a Week 1 starter in Brian Flores’ defense.

The Eagles lost a ton of talent on defense this offseason, and it showed during Thursday night’s season kick-off game against the Dallas Cowboys. Philadelphia held on for a 24-20 win, but the Cowboys scored points on their first four possessions and burned Eagles cornerback Adoree’ Jackson repeatedly throughout the game.

The Eagles’ secondary struggled with coverage and penalties until lightning in the Philadelphia area forced a nearly hour-long suspension of play late in the third quarter. That left the NBC broadcast team with some dead air to fill until the game could resume.

That’s when Rodgers reconnected with Eagles fans in the most hilarious way possible.

NBC’s on-air mistake caught the attention of Minnesota Vikings CB Isaiah Rodgers

The NBC broadcast team was discussing Philadelphia’s cornerback room when analyst Jason  Garrett sent fans into a fun-natured frenzy. The former Cowboys head coach not only reminded Eagles fans of Rodgers’ departure, but also mentioned the wrong NFC North team on air.

“I talked to Vic Fangio, their defensive coordinator, during training camp, and he had real concern about the corner opposite Mitchell. Darius Slay is gone. Isaiah Rodgers is gone to Detroit. … There was a competition during camp, and they were concerned, and rightfully so. Adoree’s having a hard time with CeeDee.”

Probably wondering why his name was trending on X, Rodgers made sure there was no confusion with a friendly jab at Garrett.

Eagles fans flooded the comments with responses such as, “Well come back!” and “Demand a trade!” One fan asked Rodgers when exactly he joined the Lions, and his response was: “SKOL BABY.”

The Eagles likely had interest in bringing Rodgers back this offseason, just not on a multi-year deal. Philadelphia surprisingly didn’t sign a single free agent for more than the 2025 season, outside of an extension for All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun.

Rodgers could have solidified Philly’s cornerback depth chart, especially entering Year 2 in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s scheme.

But he was coveted by Flores and the Vikings early in free agency, and the chance to join Minnesota’s elaborate defense as a sure-fire starter was too good to pass up. Clearly, the sixth-year pro is happy to be in the Twin Cities.
