Free Agent No. 3

Chris Wormley - DL

  • 2022 Team: Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Connection to Vikings: Brian Flores

After he was the head coach of the Dolphins for three years, Brian Flores was given the opportunity to be the senior defensive assistant and linebackers coach for the Steelers last season.

One of Pittsburgh's top defensive linemen in 2022 was veteran Chris Wormley. He only started one game for the Steelers last season, but he appeared in 13, and his performance was good enough to earn the 18th-best PFF defensive grade in the NFL among qualifying interior defenders.

Following the departure of Dalvin Tomlinson this offseason, the Vikings decided to sign free-agent defensive lineman Dean Lowry to help and try to fill the void. Lowry and Harrison Phillips will likely enter the 2022 campaign with the top two spots on Minnesota's defensive line depth chart, but after them, who ends up emerging as a solid contributor for the unit is anyone's guess.

At the very least, Wormley would improve the Vikings' defensive line depth. He doesn't need to be brought in as a starter, but he did start 14 games in 2021, so he has the capability of filling in for guys at the top of the depth chart if needed.
