Minnesota Vikings trade with the Arizona Cardinals in the 2024 NFL Draft

Vikings Get: 4th overall pick in 2024 and a second-round pick in 2025
Cardinals Get: 11th and 23rd overall picks in 2024

Currently, the Vikings making a trade with the Arizona Cardinals to acquire the No. 4 pick in this year's NFL Draft appears to be one of the more likely scenarios that could play out.

In the trade above, Minnesota ends up also recouping a second-round selection in 2025, which would give them a pick in that round again after they sent a 2025 second-round selection to the Texans in Friday's big trade.

While the Vikings would have to give up less in this trade than they would if they were to make a deal with the Patriots for the No. 3 pick, this trade could result in Minnesota possibly missing out on the top quarterback on their draft board.

This isn't to say that the Vikings would end up with a terrible quarterback prospect with the fourth overall selection. It just might not be the guy they wanted the most.

Minnesota Vikings trade with the Los Angeles Chargers in the 2024 NFL Draft

Vikings Get: 5th and 69th overall picks in 2024 and a third-round pick in 2025
Chargers Get: 11th and 23rd overall picks in 2024

While this potential trade with the Los Angeles Chargers would require Minnesota to give up even fewer assets to move up in this year's draft, it also comes with the biggest risk.

Sure, the Vikings would also land additional third-round selections in April's draft and in 2025 to go along with the fifth overall pick in this year's opening round, but it could also result in them missing out on landing one of the top 2024 quarterback prospects.

Each of the top four passing prospects in this year's draft has the potential to be completely off of the board after the first four picks are made. If this happens and Minnesota is left sitting there at pick No. 5, then all of the work they did to move up in the first round would essentially be pointless.

This trade is still a possibility for the Vikings, but it would likely only be done if they could essentially guarantee that another quarterback-needy team won't jump ahead of them in the draft order.
