Draft pick the Minnesota Vikings got right No. 2

Jaquelin Roy - DL (LSU)

  • Selected: 141st (5th Round)
  • Consensus Big Board Ranking: 116th (4th Round)

Landing Jaquelin Roy in the fifth round this year wasn't as much of a steal as the Vikings ending up with DeWayne McBride in the seventh round, but it was still a good selection.

Minnesota needed some defensive line help, thanks to the departure of Dalvin Tomlinson earlier this offseason. Roy likely isn't going to come in right away and make up for the loss of Tomlinson, but he has the potential to develop into a solid starter for the Vikings one day.

Before his final season at LSU, Roy was projected by some as a future first-round draft pick. But then his performance dropped off a bit in 2022 in addition to his pre-draft testing numbers being underwhelming, and this ultimately caused him to slide all the way to Minnesota in the fifth round.

Luckily for Roy, the Vikings have enough veteran defensive linemen that he doesn't have to come in and make an immediate impact for the team as a rookie. Minnesota would love it if he actually did make a quick impact, but it's not something they're likely banking on for next season.
