Draft pick the Minnesota Vikings will regret No. 2

Jay Ward - DB (LSU)

  • Selected: 134th (4th Round)
  • Consensus Big Board Ranking: 179th (6th Round)

Like Mekhi Blackmon, Jay Ward is a player that came off the board way earlier than most expected. But the Vikings clearly felt their only selection in the fourth round of this year's NFL Draft needed to be used on the former LSU defensive back.

Last season, LSU lined Ward up all over the field, and his positional versatility is believed to be a big reason why Minnesota drafted him. However, it's not like he really excelled at a high level when he lined up at a certain position. For the most part, his performances at LSU were really nothing more than average.

Perhaps the Vikings would be satisfied if Ward never became anything more than a key part of their special teams. But if Minnesota is hoping for him to eventually make a consistent impact for their defense, they could end up experiencing some feelings of disappointment.
