Reason No. 3

The Lions have the spotlight

It's no secret that the Vikings play better when the pressure is off of their shoulders. Coming off of a 13-win season, one would think expectations would be high for the defending NFC North champions among the media.

But it seems the division rival Detroit Lions are the talk of the town after finishing 9-8 in 2022 and missing out on a spot in the playoffs.

The Lions did have the fourth-best offense in football in 2022, but they also had the worst defense in the NFL, and as the saying goes, "defense wins championships".

Detroit will also play in five primetime games in 2023 after having zero in 2022, which includes the opening game of the 2023 regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Now, if you ask anyone in the Vikings organization, they will probably tell you they prefer to be underdogs rather than in the spotlight. For Minnesota fans, it should be no surprise that their favorite team is being counted out once again. But they should be excited that the pressure is not on the Vikings this season.

Minnesota is hoping to prove the doubters wrong once again in 2023 and show they are more than just a playoff-caliber team.
