Alexander Mattison is expected to replace Dalvin Cook as the top running back for the Minnesota Vikings next season. Will Mattison be able to handle his new role?

After waiting patiently behind Dalvin Cook for four seasons, Alexander Mattison is expected to finally get a shot to be the No. 1 running back for the Minnesota Vikings in 2023.

Unable to work out a trade with another team this offseason, the Vikings officially released Cook on Friday. With his departure, many are assuming that Mattison will now be given the keys to Minnesota's offensive backfield.

In the four seasons since the Vikings selected him in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, Mattison has provided a few glimpses of what he could look like as a full-time starter. But filling in here and there is much different than getting the majority of the rushing attempts each week.

What are some of the reasons why the Vikings should be at least a little worried about making Mattison their new starting running back for the 2023 campaign?
