Reason 4: He should not be expensive

Although Ahkello Witherspoon should have quite a few suitors once he becomes available, do not expect him to command any serious dough. It's also hard to see any team adding Witherspoon for more than just the 2023 season.

The Vikings entered the offseason with one of the worst cap situations in the entire NFL. Along with possible extensions looming for all-world receiver Justin Jefferson and Pro Bowl tight end T.J. Hockenson, Minnesota did all they could through the first half of free agency.

With the top corners that were on the market at the beginning of the free agency period signing within minutes, Kwesi Adofo-Mensah and his front office were hard-pressed to find younger, cheaper veterans to add to their bottom-of-the-league defense.

The Vikings 31st ranked defense from 2022 lost veterans Dalvin Tomlinson, Patrick Peterson and Chandon Sullivan to free agency while releasing linebacker Eric Kendricks as a cap casualty. It is evident that this defense is in a transitional period.

Witherspoon's injury issues and inconsistent play will be the reason teams won't be looking to throw a bag his way this year. With Minnesota looking to save a dollar any way they can, Witherspoon, under the tutelage of Brian Flores, could be a steal for the Vikings.

Flores always seems to get the best out of his corners, especially during his time with the Miami Dolphins, so why can't Witherspoon, under the watchful eye of Flores, have a bounce-back year and play a big role for Minnesota's 2023 defense?
