As the Minnesota Vikings prepare for their final preseason game of 2024 on Saturday, there is a pretty good sense of what the roster will look like during the upcoming regular season.

Some injuries have opened the door for a few Vikings players to sneak onto the team's final 53-man roster, but the top position battles have seemingly all been determined.

There are still a handful of spots up for grabs that will be decided within the next few days. With a strong performance in the final matchup of the preseason on Saturday, these next four players should lock in their spot on the roster.

Minnesota Vikings who can lock up a 2024 roster spot against the Philadelphia Eagles

Dwight McGlothern - CB

The cornerback room was arguably the most open competition of any group for the Vikings this summer. They added a handful of players through the draft and free agency to try and rebuild the secondary but have had a number of unfortunate circumstances that continue to make that a challenge.

Despite the recent signing of Stephon Gilmore, Minnesota still has one spot up for grabs. Dwight McGlothern, an undrafted free agent rookie out of Arkansas, has been impressive in training camp and his two preseason games. While he probably will not be a major player this season, he should crack the final roster with NaJee Thompson no longer taking up a spot.

During the Vikings' preseason win over the Cleveland Browns this past Saturday, McGlothern recorded an interception that he returned 90 yards to help seal the victory.

N'Keal Harry - TE

With T.J. Hockenson likely to miss a chunk of time to start the season, the Vikings have some questions at tight end. Josh Oliver is really the only lock to make the roster. Robert Tonyan, N'Keal Harry, Johnny Mundt, and Nick Muse are all battling for two spots until Hockenson is ready to return.

While Harry is the newest player to the position, the former wide receiver brings a receiving profile that the other players simply do not. Oliver is the best blocking tight end on the roster, and Mundt is much more suited for that role than as a field-stretching receiving option. If Harry continues to prove himself as a blocker, he should earn a roster spot.

Walter Rouse - OT

It is entirely likely that rookie offensive tackle Walter Rouse has already secured a spot on the roster after a strong summer with the Vikings. If he has not yet locked himself into the final 53, Rouse will have one last chance to show his value as a swing tackle in the final preseason exhibition and become an important developmental piece.

Minnesota is still working through some lingering questions along the offensive line. Dalton Risner does not appear to be the starting left guard despite holding down that role last season, and Ed Ingram has still struggled with consistency at the other guard spot. Rouse will be a swing tackle but he has the ability to slide inside if truly necessary in a pinch.

Andre Carter II - OLB

Minnesota has completely reformed its pass-rushing unit with the likes of Andrew Van Ginkel, Jonathan Greenard, and first-round pick Dallas Turner. They have also found a gem in UDFA Bo Richter to help provide depth for that unit.

Second-year UDFA Andre Carter II was once a highly-touted draft prospect and he has shown some promise during his second training camp with the Vikings. It will certainly be a battle between Carter, Gabriel Murphy, and Patrick Jones II, but Carter provides the most upside.

A strong showing against the Eagles would certainly launch Carter into the conversation for one of the final roster spots. Minnesota could build one of the most exciting young pass-rushing groups in the NFL.
