Patrick Jones II - OLB

After selecting Kellen Mond, Chazz Surratt, and Wyatt Davis in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the Vikings still had one last third-round selection to use that year. With the pick, Minnesota wound up selecting former Pittsburgh edge rusher Patrick Jones II.

Fast forward to now and Jones is the only one from the Vikings' group of four third-round picks in 2021 to still be with the team. Mond, Surratt, and Davis are all elsewhere, trying to continue their careers in the NFL.

Even though Jones is the lone 2021 third-rounder left on Minnesota's roster, it didn't help him get more first-team reps in practice this spring.

With Danielle Hunter not taking part in any of the Vikings' OTAs or minicamp this year due to a contract issue, it seemed like the perfect time for Jones to get some extra reps with the top unit. But according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis, the third-year pass rusher spent the majority of his time in OTAs working with the second-team defense, while D.J. Wonnum got most of the reps with the first-team defense.

Heading into a make-or-break type of season, it seems like Jones might have to fight hard to keep a spot on the team's final 2023 roster.
