Last year, the Vikings decided to spend their second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on cornerback Andrew Booth Jr., formerly of Clemson. Many viewed Booth as a first-round draft prospect, so the fact that Minnesota was able to add him in the second round seemed like great news for the team.

As a rookie in 2022, injuries limited his opportunities on defense, and he only ended up appearing in a total of six games. And even when he did get on the field, his performance made it very obvious that he was a rookie with some of the mistakes he had.

Following the departures of Patrick Peterson, Cameron Dantzler, Chandon Sullivan, and Duke Shelley this offseason, most assumed Booth would be given more chances to get significant snaps on defense this year. This could still end up being the case, but so far, the young corner is still working to move up the depth chart.

During the first few Vikings training camp practices this summer, Booth has not been part of the first-team defense when they have been in their nickel formations according to The Athletic's Alec Lewis. Instead, Akayleb Evans, Byron Murphy Jr., and Joejuan Williams have been getting these nickel snaps.

Perhaps things could change, but for now, Booth does not seem to be in line to begin the 2023 season as one of Minnesota's two starting cornerbacks.
