Player No. 2

Luiji Vilain - OLB

This was the biggest surprise cut of the Vikings and the biggest risk they took when waiving players. Luiji Vilain made the active roster as an undrafted free agent a season ago and was progressing along nicely this preseason.

He was explosive off the edge, causing pressure, and even tallied a couple of sacks. He looked like a surefire roster keep, so when he was let go in favor of Andre Carter II, it was a bit jarring.

Carter does have a ton of potential but looks years away from being ready to contribute. With Marcus Davenport, Danielle Hunter, and D.J. Wonnum's futures in question after this season, having a commodity on the roster like Vilain, who has looked good and is getting better every day, would have been a nice luxury.

They still have that commodity on the practice squad, but he could be sniped by another team at any point this season. Edge rushers are a premium position in the NFL, and teams can never seem to have enough. To see Vilain get signed to an active 53 wouldn't be shocking. It would actually be more surprising if he wasn't.

If it does happen and Vilain goes elsewhere, risking him on the practice squad could end up being a major regret for Kwesi Adofo-Mensah.
