Theo Jackson - S

This one was a little bit like the Nick Muse situation. Theo Jackson definitely played well enough in camp and the preseason to earn a spot on the team, but no one really predicted that the Vikings would actually keep six safeties.

With Harrison Smith and Cam Bynum entrenched as the starters, Josh Metellus and Lewis Cine as the backups, and then versatile rookie Jay Ward providing depth at corner as well as safety, many figured the team was more than set at the position.

Jackson was seen as a nice piece to get onto the practice squad with a high chance of getting called to the active roster should an injury befall someone ahead of him on the depth chart. Instead, the team did keep six safeties, which is a far cry from what we all got accustomed to in the Mike Zimmer era.

It is worth wondering if Jackson's spot on the team is safe. Minnesota could stand to add some talent at running back, offensive line, and cornerback. If they are awarded a player they claim on waivers, Jackson could be the one losing his spot in favor of a new face.

Whether that happens or not, Jackson making the initial roster was both impressive and surprising.
