Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins were a popular trade destination for Dalvin Cook prior to the draft, and there was even a rumor that the two sides had a deal worked to take place after June 1. Those plans may have cooled off in the weeks after the draft, but you could argue Miami's backfield is far from settled.
Miami brought back Raheem Mostert on a two-year, $5.6 million deal in free agency and performed well with 891 yards and three touchdowns last season. But at age 31, it’s a fair question to wonder how long Mostert can play at a high level – especially after he played in nine games combined over the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
Behind Mostert is Jeff Wilson Jr., who was acquired by the Dolphins at last year’s trade deadline, and third-round draft pick Devon Achane, a speedy running back that could fit in with Miami's high-octane offense. According to Dolphins Insider Barry Jackson and Breer, the selection of Achane may have killed any momentum a Cook deal had, but it takes just one phone call to make these things happen.
While Mike McDaniel believes in having interchangeable parts at running back, there has to be some appeal to adding a more consistent player to his backfield. That’s why a Cook trade could still happen, and the Dolphins could be calling the Vikings in a couple of weeks.
