Alexander Mattison - RB

If you're looking at the box score from Sunday, Alexander Mattison had his best game of the season and was a key piece in the offense. However, Mattison was far from that as he struggled mightily in what could be his final start with the Vikings.

He carried the ball 20 times for 93 yards and looked better as a runner than he had the first two weeks. Still, Mattison was not explosive at all and was underwhelming in the red zone. Minnesota kept giving him the rock down by the goalline, and Mattison could not punch it in.

He also got bailed out by a forward progress ruling that should have been a fumble down inside the red zone, which eventually resulted in a field goal for the Vikings. Earlier in that drive, Mattison dropped a wide-open target but was later bailed out with an unnecessary roughness penalty to give Minnesota new life.

Cam Akers is probably going to get some reps in Week 4 after a full week in practice. If he shows any resemblance to a decent running back, Mattison will probably be bumped back into a supplemental role for the Vikings.

It's also worth mentioning that Ty Chandler was better in his limited action than Mattison was this weekend. Chandler carried three times for 27 yards and looked explosive through his holes.
