Alexander Mattison and Cam Akers - RBs
Alexander Mattison may finally be getting over the early hiccups and has stringed together two strong games on the ground. On Sunday, Mattison played his best game of the season as he ran for 95 yards on 17 carries and did not fumble, which has been a major issue this season. He is finally feeling the pressure of another back, and Mattison is stepping up.
Cam Akers, making his debut for the Vikings, rushed five times for 40 yards and caught two passes for 11 more yards. He was excellent when filling in for Mattison and kept the chains moving in his first action with a new team.
With Kirk Cousins having a bit of a rough outing and the offensive line being up and down, the rushing attack was solid in Week 4. The two backs were key in keeping drives alive and getting the Vikings to the finish line after a hideous start to the day.
It will be interesting to see how Kevin O'Connell handles the tandem moving forward. Mattison is racking up tough yards each week, but Cam Akers looked way better than most thought he would in limited action. Can they figure things out and take the load off of Kirk Cousins during a difficult schedule for the next month or so?
