5 extremely early needs for the Vikings in the 2024 NFL Draft
By Nik Edlund
Quarterback
The Vikings didn't extend Kirk Cousins during the offseason, which puts him in a lame-duck year with the team. Minnesota appears ready to move on with a young quarterback who they can groom into their long-term solution at the position, which means, barring a Super Bowl victory, Cousins will be gone in 2024.
Nick Mullens is a quality backup behind Cousins on the depth chart. He can come in and not lose a game for the team, but he isn't the future at the position by any means.
The jury is out on Jaren Hall, who the Vikings drafted in the fifth round this year, but it would be a massive shock if he showed the type of ability to make the team believe he is their future quarterback.
Minnesota was reportedly ready to move up for Bryce Young in the 2023 NFL Draft, and they could certainly do the same in 2024. Caleb Wiliams and Drake Maye are the top options, and they could be worth the investment of multiple first-round choices to ensure they end up in purple.
Other options if the Vikings stick and pick are Bo Nix, Michael Penix Jr., and Quinn Ewers. Either way, quarterback will be a top priority for the team in the 2024 Draft.
