Player No. 5

Brian Asamoah - ILB

This one could be a bit surprising, but Brian Asamoah is a major breakout candidate for the Vikings this season. In the brief time we saw him on the field last season, we got a glimpse of the explosive type of player this youngster can be.

Asamoah is just lightning-quick on the field. He explodes to the football and will throw his body in harm's way to make a play. An excellent example of this was in the first game against the Giants when he flew in out of nowhere to strip the ball carrier and then had the wherewithal to scoop up the loose ball and advance it.

That was just a little morsel of the type of game-changing plays Asamoah can make. It'll be exciting to see him paired with an aggressive coach like Brian Flores.

He should find all sorts of packages that'll utilize his speed. We could see him go after the quarterback more often, which will lead to those big plays that can determine the outcome of games.

Asamoah is the only defensive player to make this list, and he still has a lot to prove. There's no reason to think he won't reach the lofty expectations set, and if he does, he's a no-brainer to be one of the most explosive players on the Vikings this season.
