Free agent for the Vikings to avoid No. 2

Calais Campbell, edge

The Minnesota Vikings are in a sticky spot. They will need to open their wallet wide if they want to bring back Danielle Hunter and the team shouldn't be expected to entertain re-signing Marcus Davenport, meaning two new starters will be needed as edge rushers.

Campbell would be another stop-gap player that the Vikings might be interested in if they feel they can be competitive in 2024. He will turn 39 years old this year and hasn't been to the Pro Bowl in the past four seasons.

Minnesota would be better to see what they have in D.J. Wonnum or Patrick Jones II as a starter as they continue their competitive rebuild. Wonnum actually had more sacks than Campbell in fewer games played and is already familiar with Brian Flores' defense.

Saving the money needed to sign Calais Campbell and testing a younger player are both great reasons to look to a younger, much less expensive option. Just because a player has name recognition, that doesn't mean they would be a great signing.
