Free agent for the Vikings to avoid No. 3

Chris Jones, defensive tackle

Desperately needing help on the defensive line, Chris Jones is one of the top free agents available. Spotrac estimates he will command nearly $28 million for the upcoming season and has proven in the past that he's willing to do what it takes for a big payday.

Jonathan Bullard, Harrison Phillips, and Sheldon Day are expected to be the starters in 2024 depending on what the Vikings do with Dean Lowry. Minnesota could make strengthening the defensive line a priority after last season's deficiency.

Entering a bidding war for the top defensive tackle free agent isn't something Minnesota should get involved in. Jones has been disruptive for Kansas City and would bring championship experience but he would also put a big dent in the salary cap.

Age isn't an issue with Jones since he turns 30 this season. But it's wild to think about the price tag that would be associated with bringing him in. Instead, the Minnesota Vikings need to draft well and look for free agency bargains to open a competition.
