5 Vikings who could be one and done with the team like Za'Darius Smith
By Nik Edlund
Johnny Mundt - TE
Johnny Mundt was brought in during free agency of 2022. He spent time with Kevin O'Connell in Los Angeles with the Rams and actually had the best season of his career playing for the Vikings in 2022. Mundt hauled in 19 balls for 140 yards and one touchdown.
He proved to be a reliable option for Kirk Cousins when all the attention of the defense was given to Jefferson, Thielen, Hockenson, and Osborn. Despite his career year, Mundt will find making the Vikings rost for a second straight season a major challenge.
The Vikings went out and signed Josh Oliver just a few minutes into the legal tampering window. He has attained the reputation of a run blocker, but he's already making impressive catches in camp, and it's believed he'll have a role in the Vikings' passing attack.
This means that there will be four players battling for one spot on the Vikings' tight end depth chart, as they are likely only going to keep three. Mundt will have to be better than Nick Muse, Ben Ellefson, and undrafted rookie Ben Sims. This will be one of the more intriguing camp battles, and it's truly hard to predict who could come out on top.
Ellefson is strictly a run blocker, while Mundt, Muse, and Sims bring a bit more to the passing game. Mundt likely will be the favorite to be the Vikings' third tight end, but there's still a strong chance that he gest usurped in camp and ends up being with the Vikings for just one season.
