Cam Bynum - S

It would definitely be surprising if the Vikings parted ways with Cam Bynum at the end of training camp, but it isn't crazy.

Minnesota restructured Harrison Smith earlier this year and they have Lewis Cine ready to make an impact after missing the majority of his rookie season with a broken leg.

Also on the depth chart is Josh Metellus, who is an excellent special teamer that has also played well on defense when he's been thrust onto the field. The Vikings drafted Jay Ward this year as well, who has experience at safety and could be an option in emergency situations.

So Minnesota could move on from Bynum and still be pretty solid at the position, at least for 2023. Why would they want to do that? The simple answer was that Bynum wasn't great as a starter in 2022.

Sure, a lot of it could be scheme issues, but he just wasn't making many game-changing plays that many safeties do.

He finished the last season with 81 total tackles, zero sacks, and just two interceptions. However, most of those tackles were after a receiver had found an open spot in the loose coverage and just needed to be touched down.

Bynum is still young and is a prideful player. He'll fight and scrap for his job, but if he loses out to Cine this summer, the Vikings could decide to live life without him.
