The NFL's roster cutdown period has passed, so which of the newly available players should the Minnesota Vikings consider signing before the 2023 season?

With the NFL's mandatory roster cutdown period to a 53-man coming to an end, there are a lot of new faces available around the league that the Minnesota Vikings might be interested in adding. A lot of players have already signed to a practice squad somewhere, but this does not mean they are unavailable.

The Vikings signing a player now would mean that someone from their current 53-man roster would need to be released, so the team would certainly need to think long and hard about any new additions.

With that being said, there are some intriguing names that are still available. Let's look at a few that Minnesota could be interested in, starting with some competition for Greg Joseph.

Player No. 1

Cade York - K

A kicker who was drafted with a decent valued pick that struggled and was cut? Could the Vikings ever imagine that scenario occurring? With the ghost of Daniel Carlson still looming over Minnesota, could Cade York be the newest edition of kickers who were cut too soon?

York was recently cut by the Cleveland Browns after being a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Vikings have Greg Joseph as their kicker, and he has certainly been a solid starter at the position, but could the 22-year-old York be a threat to Joseph?

Minnesota has seen very recently how giving up on a kicker too early can come back to bite a team in a big way, so maybe they are looking to make amends by trying to fix York into the kicker the Browns thought he could be when they drafted him.

The Vikings have been stung by the kicker bug for years, and even though Joseph has been solid for two years, there is no denying that he has his struggles. He has missed 10 extra point attempts in the last two years, which, even with the harder difficulty on the extra points tries, is still a pretty rough stat to swallow.

Minnesota could take a flier on York if they are looking to take a gamble, and with Kwesi Adofo-Mensah at the helm as the team's general manager, there is certainly no shortage of taking the road less traveled.
