Vikings who may not be back in 2024

Marcus Davenport, Edge

Marcus Davenport hasn't played a single game for the Minnesota Vikings yet, but his one-year deal worth $13 million definitely raised some eyebrows since his statistics don't exactly line up with that kind of payday.

Davenport has never had a double-digit sack season. In fact, he has had less than five sacks in a season during a majority of his career. It felt like he got paid based on the 2021 season where he had nine sacks for the Saints.

This creates a tough situation for Minnesota. If Davenport has a great season, he can test free agency and likely get a big contract elsewhere and if he struggles, the Vikings aren't likely to use cap space to give him another opportuniy.

Signing Marcus Davenport feels a lot like a one-year rental but one that could help to fill the gap left by the unhappy Za'Darius Smith's trade from the team. It's difficult to imagine a scenario where the young defender stays with the purple and gold.
