5 receivers the Vikings could add after putting Justin Jefferson on IR
By Nik Edlund
Receiver No. 3
Tre'Quan Smith
If the Vikings do sign an outside name to help flesh out their wide receiver depth chart, there's no question that player will have a bit role on the team. He's likely to be inactive the first game or so and then be no more than the fourth or fifth receiver if ever called into active duty.
One guy who is currently on the Denver Broncos practice squad who has produced in a bit role already is Tre'Quan Smith.
Smith is a former member of the New Orleans Saints. He was never a star there, starting 35 games in five years, but he often produced.
Smith had 131 receptions for 1,764 yards and 18 touchdowns in his Saints career. That's pretty impressive for a guy who was never the No. 1 guy and often took a back seat to players like Michael Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders.
Smith would be a solid addition to Minnesota as a fourth wide receiver. He has good size at 6-foot-2, and he can still stretch the field.
He's only 27-years-old, which still puts him in a desirable range for the Vikings. He may not be the most popular name of guys who are available, but he does make some sense and could be a sneaky good add for the Purple.
