5 worst players who could make the 2023 Minnesota Vikings
By Nik Edlund
Player No. 3
Ross Blacklock - DL
The Vikings made a deal late last August to acquire the former second-round choice, Ross Blacklock. Blacklock had spent his first two seasons with the Houston Texans and was a pretty big flop. He had just 36 tackles and two sacks playing in 29 games and starting just three. That's not very good for a player selected in the top 40 of his draft.
The Vikings believed he still had some upside and sent a 6th round pick to acquire his services. A change of scenery didn't do much to improve Blacklock's production, as his first season in Minnesota was on par with this first couple in Houston. Blacklock was a nonfactor, appearing in spot duty for 11 games and registering one sack and two tackles.
Blacklock could still make the final roster for a couple of reasons. Number one, the Vikings' defensive line depth isn't great. He'll be battling a journeyman defensive end in Jonathan Bullard and another disappointing draft pick in James Lynch for a spot on the Vikings roster.
What he has going for him is the potential he showed in college to become a second-round choice, and he's still just 25 years old. He was also hand chosen by this regime and cost them a sixth-round choice that they may not be ready to admit their mistake on.
No matter who the Vikings end up keeping between these three, that player will be one of the worst 53 on the roster. If it does end up being Blacklock, this will likely be his final chance to prove he can play in the NFL.
