Running Back No. 5

DeWayne McBride (Rookie)

2022 Stats (with UAB):

  • 12 games
  • 233 carries, 1,713 rushing yards (7.4 average)
  • 19 rushing touchdowns
  • 2 catches, 10 receiving yards (5.0 average)

You want to talk about a super deep sleeper to win Offensive Rookie of the Year next season, DeWayne McBride has the talent to do just that.

During his final two college seasons at UAB, McBride was incredibly productive. In 25 games, he scored 32 touchdowns, rushed for over 3,000 yards, and averaged 7.1 yards carry.

McBride didn't do much as a pass-catcher out of the backfield during his college career (just five receptions). But that's an element of his game that could improve with the help of Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell and the rest of his staff.

It's very easy to envision McBride as Minnesota's No. 2 running back to open the 2023 season, ahead of Ty Chandler and Kene Nwangwu. It will be pretty shocking if McBride doesn't end up making an impact for the Vikings during his first year with the team.
