Quarterback No. 2

Jaren Hall

2023 Team: Minnesota Vikings

With their second selection in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft earlier this year, the Vikings decided to use their pick on former BYU quarterback Jaren Hall.

Hall is the first quarterback Minnesota has drafted since Kevin O'Connell and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah took over as the team's head coach and general manager in 2022. Knowing this, O'Connell likely saw the potential to mold the former BYU signal-caller into what he desires in a quarterback.

During the 2023 preseason, Hall showed a few glimpses of potential with his ability to move outside of the pocket to avoid pressure, in addition to making plays with both his arm and legs. But he also had plenty of moments during the preseason and training camp that reminded everyone he is a rookie.

Still, a lot can happen during a season, and we have absolutely no idea how O'Connell has felt about Hall during the last few weeks.

He's been the third-string quarterback for most of the year, so he hasn't had many reps in practice since the season started. However, Nick Mullens just went on injured reserve, so Hall will likely be Minnesota's No. 2 quarterback for the next four weeks at the very least.

It's a great opportunity for Hall to impress O'Connell and the Vikings' coaching staff in practice and on the sidelines during games. If he does well enough, perhaps Minnesota will consider giving him and his $1.03 million average salary per year a chance to be their starter in 2024.
