Free-Agent Cornerback No. 6

Darious Williams

2023 Team: Jacksonville Jaguars

Darious Williams is a new man to the free-agent cornerback market as he was recently released by the Jaguars.

The diminutive corner stands just 5-foot-9, but he's a solid and stout 187 pounds, and he's very, very good. Williams earned an 85.3 coverage grade from PFF last season and had a career-high with four interceptions. He also broke up an astounding 19 passes, forced two fumbles, and had a touchdown.

Williams has developed into one of the more solid cornerbacks in the entire league and is a guy who is both good in coverage as well as defending the run.

The Jaguars released him not because of his play, but to save some money so they can be more aggressive in free agency. He will have a robust market and has earned the right to be picky with what colors he wears next.

A few factors are going against Williams signing with the Vikings though. The first is that he is 30 years old. That's a little older than Minnesota general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah has gone for in the past and if the team leans toward more of a rebuild than being competitive, the timing probably isn't right.

The other factor is that he's going to be pretty spendy. Williams is projected to earn around $12 million a year, which might price him out of the Vikings' range.

That being said, he's a talented player and one Minnesota should consider adding to the mix when they evaluate this need.
