Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones has played plenty of games at U.S. Bank Stadium as a former member of the Green Bay Packers. But Sunday will be the first time that he’ll be playing on the home sidelines.

Jones expressed his excitement for Sunday’s home opener against the San Francisco 49ers during a press conference on Wednesday, and by mimicking a SKOL chant, he may have betrayed Packers fans in the process.

“I’m so ready to hear that horn. I’ve seen it from the other side, and let me tell you, it’s contagious. When you’re on the other sideline, you’re trying not to clap. You’re trying not to get into it because you see the whole stadium doing it, and it’s contagious.

So, I’m really amped to come out there and just play out there in front of the fans at U.S. Bank [Stadium] here in Minnesota. This has been special for me, and the fans here are special, so I’m excited for Sunday.”

Minnesota Vikings RB Aaron Jones admits to wanting to do the SKOL chant as a member of the Green Bay Packers

Jones’s comments are validated by his previous performances at U.S. Bank Stadium. Playing for the Packers from 2017 until 2023, Jones has run for 502 yards and four touchdowns while adding 14 catches for 75 yards in six career games in Minneapolis.

While Sunday will be Jones’ home Vikings debut, it may not sit well with fans across the border. Packers fans have watched as Jones immediately jumped the Mississippi River to sign with the Vikings in March and was greeted with a sombrero – a staple of Jones’ time with the Packers – in purple and gold upon signing his contract.

Jones had 94 rushing yards and a touchdown on 14 carries in his Vikings debut as part of a 28-6 win over the New York Giants this past Sunday. But while some Packer fans weren’t pleased with his success, they may hit a new low seeing Jones gleefully do the SKOL chant.

While that conveniently omits the fact the Packers released Jones after asking him to re-work his contract, it adds another log on the fire two weeks from when Jones will make his return to Lambeau Field.
