When it comes to teams that could trade for Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, the Denver Broncos, not the Miami Dolphins, are the best fit for him.
During the last few weeks, multiple teams have been mentioned as possible trade destinations for Minnesota Vikings running back Dalvin Cook, including the Miami Dolphins, Buffalo Bills, and Dallas Cowboys. However, a longtime Vikings nemesis with the Denver Broncos could actually turn out to be the best team for Cook to suit up for next.
Minnesota fans' favorite head coach to hate, Sean Payton, is now the head coach of the Broncos, and during his time in the same position with the New Orleans Saints, he was able to help turn Alvin Kamara into one of the most dangerously versatile running backs in the entire NFL.
Cook has some of the same skills to play the Kamara role in the Broncos' new offense under Payton, and Denver's head coach knows what exactly what to expect from the Vikings' veteran running back from his multiple battles with Minnesota when he was the head coach in New Orleans.
Denver Broncos a better fit for Minnesota Vikings RB Dalvin Cook than Miami Dolphins
Thanks to Cook growing up in Miami, Florida, the Dolphins are who most immediately think of as a possible future destination for the current Vikings running back. But other than it being Cook's hometown, Miami isn't exactly the best fit for the four-time Pro Bowler.
First, the Dolphins already have six running backs on their roster, including their two leading rushers from last season, Raheem Mostert and Jeff Wilson. Miami also used a Day 2 pick in this year's NFL Draft to select former Texas A&M running back Devon Achane in the third round, one of just four picks the Dolphins had in the entire draft.
Would Miami love to acquire Cook? Of course, but the Dolphins' lack of desperation at the running back position will allow them to move on from a possible trade if Minnesota is asking for too much in return.
Now, the Broncos are a different story. Denver also has six running backs on their current roster, but all of them combined for a grand total of six starts for their teams in 2022, including Javonte Willams, who is still recovering from a brutal knee injury he suffered last season.
Adding someone like Cook to the group would not only improve the talent of the position, but it would add some much-needed starting experience to the Broncos' offensive backfield. Acquiring the Vikings running back would also allow Denver to take their time with Williams and not feel the need to rush him back out on the field too soon.
Will the Broncos and Payton be the team that ends up acquiring Cook from Minnesota this offseason, or will the 27-year-old running back be traded to a different organization?
