Lions new alternate helmets are a terrible disaster
By Adam Patrick
The Minnesota Vikings continue to have the best uniforms in the NFC North after the Detroit Lions revealed a new alternate helmet on Wednesday.
Some Minnesota Vikings fans have been hoping for their favorite team to introduce an alternate uniform of some sort for the upcoming season, but nothing has been announced yet. However, the Detroit Lions have decided to celebrate their 90th anniversary as a franchise by wearing an alternate helmet for a pair of games in 2023.
This isn't even some sort of snarky opinion from an opposing fan base, but the helmet design just doesn't look good. Then, Detroit made their new helmet even worse when it was also announced that it will be worn with their all-grey uniform set.
Detroit Lions will wear alternate helmet in Week 18 against the Minnesota Vikings in 2023
Following the reveal of their atrocious alternate helmet on Wednesday, the Lions announced that the team will be wearing these new helmets next season in Week 8 against the Las Vegas Raiders and in Week 18, when they close out their 2023 schedule with a home matchup against the Vikings.
No word yet on if Minnesota will also be wearing any sort of different uniform for that Week 18 contest in Detroit. But if the Vikings wanted to bring back the late 1990s/early 2000s away uniform with the purple and gold stripe on each shoulder, that would easily get a way better reaction than what the Lions received following their helmet reveal on Wednesday.
Man, Detroit can't even design a proper helmet, and we're supposed to believe they're the favorite in the NFC North heading into next season?
