Final Vikings 53-man roster prediction before the 2023 regular season
By Adam Patrick
Running Backs (4)
- Alexander Mattison
- Michael Carter
- Ty Chandler
- C.J. Ham (FB)
Minnesota has made it very clear during the last few months that Alexander Mattison is going to be their No. 1 running back this season, so there's no reason to think otherwise.
However, with plenty of questions on the depth chart behind Mattison, the Vikings end up making a trade with the New York Jets to acquire third-year running back Michael Carter. With a total of 338 touches in his two seasons with the Jets, Minnesota will feel much better about their running back depth heading into Week 1 with Carter on their roster.
Wide Receivers (5)
- Justin Jefferson
- Jordan Addison (R)
- K.J. Osborn
- Jalen Nailor
- Brandon Powell
Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and K.J. Osborn are all guaranteed to make the final roster. But behind them is where things start to get tricky for the Vikings.
Even though he was sidelined for most of the summer with a leg injury, Jalen Nailor is someone Minnesota has been impressed with during the last few months, so he gets a spot on the final 53.
Then there's Brandon Powell, who the Vikings have raved about this summer, so he gets the fifth and final wide receiver spot.
