It's that time of year around the NFL where teams are getting ready to trim their rosters to 53 players and some players who are familiar to certain teams like the Minnesota Vikings might get opportunities elsewhere.

One player who hasn't made the most of his opportunities outside of a Vikings jersey is running back Dalvin Cook. The former Pro Bowl rusher struggled during stints with the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens but could be on the verge of another opportunity.

It is a bit surprising that Dalvin Cook hasn't found a team already. The free agent running back had four consecutive seasons with over 1,000 rushing yards and is still only 29 years old. It was inevitable that some team would want to kick the tires on the experienced bac, for the upcoming season.

According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, that opportunity could be soon for Cook. The respected media figure recently shared on his X account that sources are saying the running back is flying out to Dallas to meet with the Cowboys.

Currently, the Cowboys depth chart at running back is interesting. Ezekiel Elliot is back and other than Deuce Vaugh, they have a lot of new faces for depth. Bringing in a rusher with experience they could use to split carries to use as insurance would be smart as long as Cook didn't cost them too much.

2023 was the first season as a pro that Dalvin Cook did not register a rushing touchdown. He also had a career-low 67 rushing attempts between his stints with the Jets and Ravens, making him a prime candidate for a prove-it type of contract.

A running back with gas left in the tank, Dalvin Cook might not be the dynamic starter he was during his time with the Minnesota Vikings, but he still has a lot to offer a team looking for a contributor to help make them a contender this season.

Fans of the Minnesota Vikings may have noticed that several Vikings players and even a former coach have made their way to Jerry Jones' locker room recently and it would not be surprising if one more former member of the purple and gold makes their way to play for the Dallas Cowboys for the 2024 NFL season and possibly beyond.
