Former Vikings QB could replace Justin Herbert vs. Chiefs in Week 4
By Adam Patrick
It's been quite the journey in the NFL for Taylor Heinicke ever since he signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted rookie free agent back in 2015. The veteran quarterback has actually started 29 games during his time in the league, and his next appearance in the starting lineup could potentially take place when the Los Angeles Chargers take on the Kansas City Chiefs.
Heinicke is currently a member of the Chargers, and on Friday, the team listed starting quarterback Justin Herbert as questionable for their game on Sunday against Kansas City. Herbert is dealing with an ankle injury, and he's been limited in practice all week long.
If he can't go this weekend, Los Angeles will turn to Heinicke to help them attempt to pull off the upset over the unbeaten Chiefs.

Less than two months ago, Heinicke was actually competing in Atlanta Falcons training camp to be one of the team's backups behind Kirk Cousins. Then, right before the start of the 2024 regular season, the Falcons agreed to trade Heinicke to the Chargers in exchange for a conditional sixth-round draft pick.
Los Angeles is the sixth NFL team Heinicke has been a member of since parting with Minnesota in 2017. Along with the Vikings, Falcons, and Chargers, the veteran quarterback has spent time with the New England Patriots, Houston Texans, Carolina Panthers, and Washington Commanders during his career in the league.
Heinicke's most successful tenure was when he was he was with the Commanders between 2020 and 2022. With Washington, he started 24 games, and led the team to a 12-11-1 record in these matchups. Overall, Heinicke has a career record of 13-15-1 as a starter in the NFL.
Will he get to add another win this record on Sunday if Los Angeles needs him to start against the Chiefs?
