A pair of former Minnesota Vikings offensive linemen called out quarterback Kirk Cousins for taking off Tuesdays during the NFL season.

Cousins initially revealed that he doesn't do football-related things on Tuesdays during an episode of Netflix's "Quarterback," which was released prior to the start of the 2023 NFL season.

“If we’re on a Sunday-to-Sunday schedule, unlike most quarterbacks I choose to take Tuesday entirely off,” Cousins explained. “About eight years ago, I made the decision that I’m going to truly rest for 24 hours a week during the season. I think at first it threw the coaches off a little bit that, ‘Wait a minute, our starting quarterback’s not gonna be in the building all day on Tuesday? We’re not even gonna see him?’ But it’s just something that I felt was important. On Tuesday, I’ll do anything that isn’t football.”

During a recent appearance on the "OLine Committee Podcast," former Vikings guard Alex Boone ripped into Cousins for his approach.

"It just starts over every Monday," Boone said. "A whole new hundred-hour work week, all over. No matter how you feel or what you feel. And when the quarterback of the team comes out and is like, 'Well, I take Tuesdays off because I need personal time,' I was really offended when he said that. I think everybody on the team was probably like, 'This is [expletive].'"

Former Vikings guard Jeremiah Sirles echoed Boone's sentiment.

"I never played with a quarterback that wasn't in there first thing Tuesday morning," Sirles added. "And I learned that from Philip Rivers. When I read that, it just was weird to me because it was something I had never seen in a six-year career on four different teams."

Both Boone and Sirles are obviously entitled to their opinions, and Cousins' approach is certainly a bit unorthodox.

But ultimately, Cousins is beholden to his current teammates and coaching staff. If they're alright with him taking Tuesdays off, then outside opinions don't matter much. If the complains were from current teammates, it would be a different story, but that isn't the case.
