5 free agents the Vikings should already be thinking about for 2024

Vikings free agent target No. 1
David Mayo, EDGE - Washington Commanders
The Minnesota Vikings are likely going to lose Danielle Hunter to the highest bidder this offseason and it would be a bit surprising if Marcus Davenport returned to the team for another year. This makes finding a consistent pass rusher a priority.
Minnesota may attack this need in the draft but they could also use multiple picks this year to secure a player they hope to be their quarterback of the future. Plus, the top free agent edge rushers include guys like Za'Darius Smith and Yannick Ngakoue, who are unlikely to return to the franchise.
The Vikings may want to see what D.J. Wonnum and Pat Jones II have to offer as starters, but they should also bring in some competition. Since edge rusher is a premium position in the NFL, finding a player to come in and make a huge impact without breaking the bank will be a huge challenge.
David Mayo might not have a huge track record of big-sack seasons but he has 128 games of experience with 30 starts under his belt. The 30-year-old linebacker could be a good player to push Jones while adding depth to a position where the Vikings will be thin.
