Free agent No. 3

Nick Folk, kicker

Following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL season, the Minnesota Vikings didn't seem to have any plans when it came to figuring out who would be the team's kicker going forward since Greg Joseph was set to become a free agent.

The simple thought would be that re-signing Greg Joseph sense. Last season, he made all 17 field goals from less than 40 yards out and only missed two of his 38 extra point tries on the year, showing off his consistency.

While Joseph is still a free agent, the Vikings went out and got John Parker Romo, who has never kicked in a regular season NFL game and recently spent time with the San Antonio Brahmas of the XFL. Meanwhile, established kickers were available in free agency.

Nick Folk may be turning 40 years old this year but has 16 years of NFL experience under his belt. Folk played all 17 games for the Tennessee Titans last season and only missed one field goal with that one miss coming from beyond 50 yards.

If the Vikings wanted to have a reliable kicker but wanted to move on from Joseph, signing Folk would have made a lot more sense than agreeing to terms with a kicker who hasn't seen regular season action despite having preseason or practice squad stints with the New Orleans Saints, Detroit Lions, and Chicago Bears.

Romo was named to the 2023 All-XFL Team and could be an interesting kicker to bring into training camp or the preseason but the Vikings should want to bring some competition in for him to ensure they have a competent kicker on the roster by the time the regular season rolls around,

Signing Nick Folk would immediately raise the floor of the kicking position. His age might mean he's not in the future plans, but he would be great insurance until the Minnesota Vikings can find a player to hold down the position for many years to come.
