Realistic Vikings Free Agent No. 2

Gus Edwards - RB

2023 Team: Baltimore Ravens

The release of Alexander Mattison opens up a lot of possibilities at running back for the Minnesota Vikings. Even though there are more high-profile rushers in free agency, Gus Edwards should be someone to keep an eye on.

"Gus the Bus" filled in for J.K. Dobbins last season and showed a ton of potential. He played in all 17 games for Baltimore last season, starting nine contests. He finished the season with 810 yards and 13 touchdowns on the ground while adding 12 catches for 180 yards.

Edwards could be an interesting player to pair with Ty Chandler in Minnesota's backfield. With an estimated 2024 value of $3.6 million, he could easily fit into the Vikings' offense and not hurt the salary cap too much.

Being able to inexpensively fill holes on the roster is great because it leaves cap for other players and makes draft capital more flexible when it comes to moving around the board during the 2024 NFL Draft next month.
